JUNIOR HOCKEY

Yarra has a proud history of developing junior hockey players across all ages and skill levels – they really are the lifeblood of our club.

We offer junior hockey programs for players of all ages and skill levels and the club has a strong history of success, with its junior teams regularly competing at the highest level.

Most kids start their hockey journey by participating in Hookin2Hockey, an entry level program designed to give players an introduction to the basic skills of hockey as well as a chance to make new friends.

From there the junior program is divided into a number of age groups, from Under 10s to Under 18s. Each age group has its own training sessions and competitions with teams across all grades – Shield, Pennant & District – as well as in the specialised U10 competition.

In 2023, we had 4 Junior teams make the finals with two teams going on to be Premiers – U14 Pennant and 16 Mixed District. Our U16 Shield A team took home the Silver medal.

We also encourage our junior players to take part in extra hockey training & activities through the Junior State Championships (JSC) and Hockey Victoria Academy program.

There are also opportunities to play Indoor Hockey over the summer period and through the Indoor Championships over a weekend early in the year.

As a community club, the interaction with parents and supporters is key to the culture of the club and there are many opportunities to get involved throughout the year – in the canteen, as a team manager, with special rounds or the numerous social events put on by the Club.
