MASTERS HOCKEY

Yarra Hockey Club runs an active Masters section, with teams in Hockey Victoria’s midweek Men’s Over 50 and Over 60 competitions (Wednesday nights) and a Men’s Over 70 team playing Monday mornings during school terms. Despite the names, these teams are open to all genders.

In the Over 45 age group but not yet 50? We don’t have a dedicated team there right now, but our Open team on Monday nights is a great alternative.

Before Covid the club fielded five Masters teams, and we’re keen to get back to that level — including an Over 45 side on Monday nights. If you’d like to get back into the game, get in touch. The more teams we run, the better we cater for every level, from former top-level players to junior parents picking up a stick for the first time.

Competitions are home and away, with a little travel for away games. We do some preseason training, but once the season starts the only commitment is matches. We like to win, of course — but the real emphasis is on everyone having a great time in a welcoming, social environment.

Yarra at the 2025 Australian Masters

In 2025, ten Yarra players — four women and six men — represented Victorian teams across various age groups at the Australian Masters Tournament:

• Owen Pitt — Men’s 34+
• Geoff Phipps — Men’s 65+ Division 2
• Alex Barclay and Max Chatterton — Men’s 75+
• Max Blakiston and Noel Campbell — Men’s 80+
