Men’s Field Hockey in Melbourne | Yarra Hockey Club
A proud history, a bright future. Yarra Hockey Club’s Men’s section traces its origins to the early 1900s. For over a century we’ve fielded teams in Melbourne’s top hockey leagues, winning titles and building community along the way.
Today, at the newly rebadged Yarra Hockey Club, that legacy continues at our home ground in Bellfield, in Melbourne’s north-east. Our players span experienced stalwarts, talented youth and overseas talent, with men’s hockey teams for every level — from Victoria League competition through to beginner and social hockey. We also run a long-standing Master’s section.
Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or picking up a stick for the first time, there’s a team for you. Every player is backed by an experienced coaching cohort focused on development and team ethos, and welcomed into a supportive community with revamped facilities and a renewed purpose: to enrich the lives of our community on and off the field.
2025 Men’s Season Results
A strong winter season. Our top team earned promotion to Victoria League 1 and reached the finals in our first year there, finishing 5th — with our sights set on a return to the Victorian Premier League.
Our Victoria League 1 Reserves and Pennant E sides finished 8th and 7th, reflecting the integration of players stepping up from our junior divisions. Our Men’s Open (Monday Night) team finished 3rd, holding top spot for most of the season before injuries in the semi-finals saw them fall to eventual finalists Greensborough HC.
With a good mix of international and domestic talent and growing depth, we’re excited about 2026.
2026 Men’s Hockey Teams
Yarra has entered four Men’s teams in Hockey Victoria’s 2026 outdoor competitions, played Saturdays, Sundays and Monday nights from April to September:
- Men’s Victoria League 1
- Men’s Victoria League 1 Reserves
- Men’s Pennant E
- Men’s Open (Monday Nights)

Men’s Hockey Training in Bellfield
We train twice weekly at our home ground, Cyril Cummins Reserve in Bellfield — easily reached from Heidelberg, Ivanhoe, Rosanna, Eaglemont, Macleod and the wider Banyule area, as well as Northcote and Preston:
- Tuesdays 7:00–8:30pm
- Thursdays 8:00–9:30pm
