Yarra provides Women the opportunity to play hockey at a variety of levels, catering for the individual skill levels of all players across competitive and social teams.
Our head coach is Matthew Slade and we train on Tuesday and Thursday 7:00pm to 8:30pm at our ground in Bellfield.
We currently compete in the following competitions:
Vic League 1 and Reserves
Underpinning the Premier League, is the VIC Leagues 1, 2 & 3. In 2024, there will be 22 rounds including 4 midweek matches for our Women’s Vic League 1 team. For the Vic League Reserves team, there will be only 18 rounds with no mid week matches. The finals will run over 3 weeks where the top 6 teams will compete in the finals series.
As we are the reigning 2023 Premiers, Yarra will be competing in the 2024 League Cup!
League Cup
Started in 2023, the League Cup is a pre-season tournament hosted by Hockey Victoria, with the aim of
providing certainty, excitement and competitiveness in scheduled pre-season matches, as clubs look to warm up for the Winter Season. The tournament will be played as a single match elimination knockout format, making each match a must-win, as teams compete for the League Cup, plus the cash prize and bragging rights that comes with it.
Pennant
The pennant competition is a graded 10 team Home and Away competition over 18 rounds. With Pennant A-F it provides clubs with competitive hockey for all levels of senior players. Top four fight it out for the opportunity for promotion; these grades are played across a mix of Saturdays and Sundays.
Indoor
The indoor hockey season runs from mid-October to early April, indoor is a fast and skilful game – great fun and a great way to keep fit and develop stick skills.
We strive the live the clubs values (Include | Encourage | Respect | Develop | Celebrate) in all our interactions and are always looking for new players (local and international) of all ages and abilities to join.
